Just home from Welligton Show,
We had no other studs to compete with, but was good to hear judges comments and talk to other breeders.
One pleasing comment from a stud breeder was ; You have some very good sheep with great structure.
We then spoke at length how some sheep on display had structure problems, possibly due to their breeders giving too much attention to one area of their sheep.
There is no point having a massive loin and hindquater if the sheep back is sagged. How will it walk around in the future.
We are breeding the producers of the good carcase lamb. There is no point being able to cut a lot of meat of a stud ram/ewe as a lamb. Our clients need to be able to cut a lot of meat off the offspring of our rams/ewes out of next years drop and every drop for the next 4-5 years. Not have to replace the rams every year because we are not doing the right thing.
Catch you later
